Practical Philosophy - For those seeking a deeper understanding of life and the world.
This course focuses on practical insights arising from the
application of philosophical principles to daily life. It is
not a history of philosophies, nor a comparative study of
philosophers, but does use traditional philosophical thought to
approach life in the 21st century.
It is concerned with the art of
living – offering an approach which shows that there is an
underlying unity to everything and that this holds the key to a
happy, contented and useful life.
Who am I? What is my purpose in
life? How can I understand the world? What is truth? What is wisdom?
What is freedom? How may real satisfaction and happiness be found in
life?
Students will consider these fundamental questions and are
offered practical exercises and essential philosophical principles
to aid their enquiry.
They are asked neither to accept nor reject
the ideas offered, but to test them in the light of their own
experience.
No previous experience or knowledge of philosophy is
required.
